On my Plate: Tortuga, Dubai
Ideal for… A casual fun night with friends over Mexican food and drinks.
Restaurant name and location: Tortuga, the new Mexican at Mina A’Salam hotel
Cuisine: Mexican
Atmosphere: Huge restaurant with indoor and outdoor seatings, buzzing and great casual atmosphere for a Tuesday night!
What they say: The warmth and flavours of Mexico have arrived on the Arabian Gulf shores. Tortuga is the new vibrant and colourful Mexican Kitchen and Bar at Mina A’Salam, Madinat Jumeirah. Headed by the award-winning Mexican Chef Carlos Hannon, guests are invited on a culinary journey to an authentic Mexican home.
What to order:
Molcajete (melted cheese in a volcanic stone. Morita chili sauce, homemade tortillas)
Guacamole (tasty and fresh, you’ll be ordering refills of nachos!)
Mushroom tacos
Lamb tacos
Churros (some good churros and they come with a chocolate sauce)
Service: Super slow. Hoping this is just because it’s brand new.
What I loved:
-The branding, love the newspaper menu concept with their take… ‘Tequila Times’
-An extensive menu of Mexican dishes (including a homemade section called ‘Grandma’s corner’
-They serve Mexican soft drinks, interesting cocktails with chia seeds and agave nectar.
What I didn’t love as much:
They need to do something about the service… we had to wait 45 mins for each course.
Bill for two: AED500
