Restaurant Review: Waka, Dubai

Ideal for… a Latin night in Dubai
Restaurant name and location: Waka at The Oberoi Hotel, Dubai
Cuisine: Latin American/ Peruvian/ Japanese
Atmosphere: As a new restaurant that just opened a few months ago, Waka is still fairly quiet (especially as I visited in the midst of the summer), but I can imagine with the launch of their ladies night and Maki Mondays, it will get busier.
What they say: Offering a relaxed and immersive space for patrons to unwind and enjoy their dining experience, Waka’s aim is to create an unforgettable dining experience where guests are immersed into a stunning atmosphere and can enjoy creative and innovative food and drinks, inspired by the best flavours of Latin America with an Asian twist. Set to take Dubai’s gastronomic scene to a fiery new level, Waka brings with it a unique interpretation of the magic and culinary traditions of Latin America. Creating a haven to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, Waka is set to shake up your dining routine.

What to order:
-Corn salad (which is a lovely mix of 3 kinds of corn)
-Niku maki (a Wagyu beef maki with hoison sauce)
-De la calle tacos (chicken and pineapple tacos)
-Spicy corn empanadas (which comes with chimichurri sauce)
-Tres leeches cake (one of the best I’ve tried)

Service: Most of the staff were Latin American – so it felt very authentic. Our waitress, Giuliana took great care of us.

What I loved:
-Everything was vibrant – from the interiors, the food to the presentation.
-The place has a bar that you can drop by at for drinks, if you’re not planning to have dinner.

Bill for two: AED400
