Tried & Tested: Concealers

It took me months to put the concealers guide together, mainly because I can be picky when it comes to concealers. I don’t like them heavy, yet it’s important that the product provides a good amount of coverage. A concealer that brightens the skin, without looking like you have makeup on is my ultimate winner. Here’s a round-up of a few of my favorites:

MAC Select Moisturecover
As far as tube concealers go, this is one of my favorites. I always assume MAC products are going to be heavy, but this one isn’t, and provides great coverage that is buildable. The product is easily blendable, moisturizing and glides on smoothly on the skin. I’ve been using NC35 for my skintone.

Smashbox 24 hour CC Spot Concealer
This is very different to the rest of the concealers on this list, but it definitely makes the cut as one of my favorites. The micro-precision applicator makes this application very specific, so it is easier to target a spot or area. It’s actually a treatment, as well as a concealer, helping blemishes like sun spots and acne scars disappear over time. Personally, I love that it brightens the skin while providing full coverage. The special technology of Photoset Polymers work together to make this concealer long-lasting, combatting sweat and humidity to stay on all day (hence the 24 hour name).

Kat Von D Beauty Lock it Concealer
I am currently obsessed with Kat Von D Beauty. Every single product I’ve tried so far has been incredible and have made it onto my list of favorites. This concealer makes the cut — the texture is creamy, with great buildable coverage, but still light enough to blended easily. Available at Sephora

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer
This is possibly my favorite as a daily concealer. The creamy concealer feels hydrating and leaves a smooth and soft finish. It’s great for instantly waking you up and hides any imperfections including lines without it feeling too heavy on the skin. It has an antioxidant protection (paraben-free) which doesn’t affect the coverage but still adds a glow.

Chantecaille Total Concealer
You know a concealer is really good when it has won its seal of approval from a top makeup artist. Recommended by Jillian Dempsey, this is a great option if you prefer something on the creamier side.  It goes on quite nicely, without looking cakey at all. Jillian likes this one because one shade can really work on four skin tones (a great tip for makeup artists — or sisters!) Available at Bloomingdales

Ilia Vivid Concealer
I’m so excited about the fact that beauty brand Ilia is now available in the Middle East. There are a few ‘good for you’ brands I actually like using, and Ilia is one of those. All of their products include botanical and natural ingredients — this one for instance has Arnica, Green Tea extracts, Aloe and Coconut oil. It’s great for sensitive skin, as it also soothes the skin while you use it.
