I recently visited Harrods to check out the Marlies Dekkers pop up at Harrods and got the chance to interview the Dutch designer and lady behind it all, Marlies Dekkers. Marlies was in town for two hours for press interviews so it was great to speak to the lingerie genius about her brand, pop up concept and her views on Fashion blogs! Marlies has a great celebrity following that includes Lady Gaga and Paris Hilton – I couldn’t leave Harrods without picking up my favorite set from the collection (shown in the instagram picture) enjoy the pictures of the pop up above, the interview below and don’t forget to head over to Harrods to check out the pop up store 🙂
If you’re not in London this month, you can shop the collection online on Harrods.com!
-How did your career begin?
When I was little, I remember I always wanted a garter belt. when I first started getting pocket money, I used it on lingerie. I then went to art school, and it turned out that everything I would design turned out to be a lingerie. This led on to me starting my collection in my bedroom and now we are global!
-How did the pop up store idea begin?
A dutch customer came into Harrods and was wearing her Marlies bra at a fitting. The sales assistant asked who her bra was by as she was so impressed. She then told the buyer and the rest is history…
-who is the Marlies girl?
Women who challenges and seduces herself, and is happy with herself. She isn’t dressing for the man…. she could be 16 or 80 years old.
-What inspires you?
Everything… it can be anything from a movie to an artist.
-Do you read fashion blogs?
of course! I think they are great – they really teach women how to look good. I love twitter too!
