Where to have Breakfast in Dubai

For a fancy breakfast… La Serre
One of my favorite breakfast spots would have to be La Serre — chic, with beautiful lighting and delicious food. Previously only open for lunch and dinner, with breakfast in the Boulangerie downstairs, La Serre recently started serving breakfast in the Bistro upstairs, from 10am – 1pm.  Their menu is cute and straight to the point, with choices like Eggs Benedict, Scrambled Eggs with Summer Truffle and their signature Pain Perdu (French toast). They also serve cocktails such as Mimosas and Bloody Marys, while champagne is available for anyone in a celebratory mood. I recently went for breakfast with my sister and ordered the Eggs Benedict with mushrooms (you can opt for spinach, salmon or bacon) and a plate of fresh fruit. My sister picked a classic omelette instead (you can choose your own fillings). Everything was on point, minus one little dish mistake my waiter made. The price point was quite good considering the location and quality of La Serre, and due to it not being over-crowded like it usually is in the evenings, we were well taken care of. Make sure you don’t leave without picking up some fresh pastries from their Boulangerie downstairs to take home.

For a casual spot with good food… Pantry Cafe
For the downtown kids, Pantry Cafe just opened their new branch in Business Bay which serves a range of breakfast and lunch dishes, making for the ultimate brunch. With high ceilings and brick walls, I was impressed before I even sat down for brunch. My personal favorite would have to be the Savoury Mushroom Waffles (so good, with creamy mushrooms and balsamic vinegar — think sweet and salty together). I’m also a fan of the Shakshouka, which is made with organic eggs and crumbled feta; a slightly spicy dish for a different sort of breakfast. The lunch dishes are also perfect for brunch — the pizza selection is great and the wagyu burgers melt in your mouth. I had a little issue with the service being slow, but they have the sweetest staff to make up for it. Make sure to end your meal with one of the best churros in town and take a cold Toffee Coffee drink to-go on your way out — it tastes just like a caramel frappe.

For some good food… Fraiche Cafe
The last time I went to Fraiche was when it first opened a couple of years ago — there are just way too many places to eat at in Dubai. However, I had such an amazing experience the first time round, so when I heard their breakfast was worth trying, I definitely had to visit again. Based in JLT’s Swiss Tower, parking is a little bit of a pain due to it being a busy cluster but the staff at Fraiche kindly helped me out with a spot. After speaking to the manager, it turns out that breakfast is one of the most popular meals at the cafe. With quite a selection to choose from for breakfast, I decided to go with my favorite breakfast dish, Eggs Benedict. Served with beef, I must say it’s on the list as one of my favorites. Everything from the poached eggs, muffins, and just the right amount of Hollandaise sauce was perfect. For drinks, they have a good selection of fresh juices, but I opted for a delicious creamy latte. Of course, there was no way I was going to have breakfast and not try their famous French toast which, by the way, was so good and not heavy at all. Highly recommended.

For a neighborhood bite… Mozzo Centrale
If you’re looking for a casual neighborhood bite in the Jumeirah area, put Mozzo Centrale on your list (which took over the previous Central Perk location!) They serve breakfast till 1pm on weekdays and 6pm on weekends and serve quite the range of breakfast dishes from eggs, and pancakes, to oatmeal and French Toast – as well as a list of smoothies (I had a mango/pineapple smoothie post breakfast). I wasn’t a big fan of my Eggs Benedict, but the Banana Caramel French Toast was worth going back for! The dish is made up of a cinnamon brioche (sweet enough, yet not overly sweet) topped off with caramel and bananas. Yum.
