Fitness Choice: Sweatshop Studios, Dubai

I’m always on the look out for great boutique fitness studios around the world – Most of the ones I call my favourites are located in cities like New York, LA, Montreal, and London… but this one is in Dubai. A local start up by two good friends, this is definitely one to check out.

Where: Cluster H, Concorde Tower at JLT, Dubai.

What: Possibly the most chic fitness studio in Dubai with innovative fitness classes you might not find in other studios around the city.

Type of workout: They have a range of niche fitness classes like Booty Barre (a fun barre class with great music!), Pole dancing (a challenging workout – Karla, the instructor is a gem!), Zumba, Hot Yoga (This is more of a warm yoga rather than bikram, the 75 minutes class is a great one to try. The radiant heating panels warm up the skin instead of the full space like Bikram does) and Pilates. They are also looking into starting aerial yoga soon!

The Studio: The chic eco friendly, minimal style studio with brick walls was founded by friends, Hoda and Siham. They both studied in Montreal and felt like there was a gap for fitness studios back home in Dubai. (FYI – both ladies are perfect ambassadors for the brand – their bodies are insane.) The studio is small, reminds me of the ones in New York but you really have everything you need – changing rooms, lockers, towels and toilets next door.

Amenities: Towels, mats and water.

Parking: At the moment, parking there is no problem because the two buildings in cluster H are still under construction.

Recommended Instructors: All the instructors I’ve had classes with were attentive, sweet, helpful and passionate. It really makes all the difference…

Rates: AED80 per class or AED950 for one month unlimited classes minus pole dancing.

Pros :

-It could easily be one of the most beautiful studios I’ve seen – clean, minimal, and touches of wood with brick walls.

-The range of quality classes – every single class was actually a good class, and you left with an impactful workout.

-They have a sweat board, where your photo gets taken post class on a polaroid and gets pinned on that board. The more sweat, the better. Hello motivation.

-First studio in Dubai to offer Hot yoga (gentler heat than Bikram)

Cons:

-If you’re in downtown, location might not work in your favour.
