Paris Fashion Week S/S'14 Diary: Day One

September 29
Comments Subcategorized in:

The third day of fashion week, but my first day with coverage of shows after my two days with Rochas. This season, I’ve been taking it lightly editing my days – organising meetings, interviews, showroom visits, presentations and a few shows on the side.

Show: IRFE Paris

Venue: Place Vendome

About the brand: Designer, Olga Sorokina’s Debut RTW collection for Irfe. The brand shut in 1931 and Sorokina, is the new owner as well as the designer.

Front row sightings: Jamie Hince, Emmanuel Alt and Mark Ronson, Elisa Sendaoui, Bianca Brandolini and Caroline Issa.

Trends: Punk accents, Mesh, Leather and Tailored pants.

Nicholas Kirkwood S/S ’14

I popped over to the Nicholas Kirkwood showroom during Paris fashion week, who has just been bought out by LVMH and I checked out the Spring/Summer ’14 collection. This season, Kirkwood used Moroccan influences, brought out his signature styles in brights focusing on three primary colors – blue, orange and green as well as introducing new shapes and textures. He also added a bit of Summer styles including flower suede laser cut sandals and wedges.

Show: Nina Ricci

Venue: Tuileries gardens

Atmosphere: Full house, and once the show commenced – A sheer white curtain unraveled through the runway, which started the show wonderfully.

Front row sightings: Olivia Palermo, Carine Roitfeld, and Anna Dello Russo.

The Collection: Lots and lots of whites… The showcard was headlined with a quote by Gilbert K. Chesterton, “White… is not a mere absence of Color; It is a shining and affirmative thing as fierce as red, as definite as black…”, which I liked. The power of white.

Inspiration: The romantic and historic period in men’s dressing, which ranged with elements of both men’s and women’s wardrobes like glittering tweets and layers of chiffon.

Trends: White (of course.) and it’s colour variations from chalk, plaster, chantilly to porcelain. Powder gold, lace and chiffon.

What to look out for next season: Their new season bag, “Carte Blanche” – a large envelope-shaped clutch.

Extras: The show has two catwalk crashers from Ukrainian feminist group that were pulled off the runway!
