On my Plate: Kris Kros, Dubai

I recently went out for dinner with friends to check out the brand new restaurant, Kris Kros in Downtown Dubai – by the same owners of Arabic restaurant, Leila’s. We had such a great time, so if you’re looking for a casual restaurant to head to for friends or family lunch with a young one – this is for you.

Restaurant name and location: Kris Kros, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, Downtown Dubai. (difficult to miss)

Cuisine: International, a criss cross of cultures hence the name.

Atmosphere: Casual Buzz with Quirky and modern interiors.

What they say: KRIS KROS fuses culinary favorites with a fresh, modern touch to present delectable dishes that transport you around the world on a culinary journey. Whether sitting on the terrace or indoors, be ready to KRIS KROS Continents with dishes evoking the essence of the Americas, Mediterranean and Asia. Experience world cuisines exclusively re-mixed to satisfy all palettes, while savouring each plate off the diverse menu and enjoying the culture behind every dish. Located in heart of downtown Dubai, Boulevard Plaza Tower II facing the Burj Khalifa.

What to order:

-Dynamite shrimp (similar to PF changs and Caramel lounge, yum.)

-Crab salad (light, yet satisfying)

-Chicken Quessadillas (they also have a beef and mushroom version for those mexican cravings)

-Truffle pasta (heavy, but oh so worth it. Perfection in every bite)

-Pain perdu French toast (burnt sugar on the outside, majorly soft on the inside with a side of vanilla ice cream.)

-Chocolate foundant (gooey!)

-Bubble gum and blue mist shisha (I’m not a shisha smoker but I had to order a Shisha with the vast flavors they have!)

Service: superb and fast service – the waiters and waitresses were around. Even though it was a full house, I never felt like the service was slow.

What I loved:

-There’s something for everyone. You don’t have to worry about people’s food tastes.

-If you love juices and mocktails, you will love the range of juices as well as the milkshakes (they have a naughty Bounty one!)

-Extensive shisha flavors. I don’t smoke shisha, but the menu tempted me. They have Bubble gum, chocolate, Pepsi, Red Bull… And of course the classics.

-I was worried about sitting in the smoking section (They also have a non smoking, which is more popular with families), but the smoking indoor area wasn’t too stuffy.

What I didn’t love as much:

-Getting lost in the parking lot in Dubai’s humidity. More signs please…  (Update: Kris Kros have since introduced Valet Parking!)

-Being out of Kinder crepes. A tease…

Bill for two: Very affordable, you’ll be spending an average of AED100. (minus Shisha)
