This week, I interviewed the talented jewelry designer and one of London’s most stylish women. We speak about jewelry design, accessorizing and what she dislikes about social media. Lara Bohinc’s collection is sold at Boutique1.com

How did you get into jewelry design?

When i was studying industrial design I started making my own jewellery from plastics. At that time i discovered that jewellery is a mix of all different design disciplines that I love: a bit of architecture and product design and a bit of fashion and graphic design.

You have designed pieces for some great clients. Who has been your most interesting one?

Uh i couldn’t possibly tell, that is confidential! All my clients are very private…

What is your ultimate tip for styling jewelry?

Wear no more than three pieces of jewellery at any one time, and never ever take jewellery off unless it is when you put it back in the box. That is how most people lose jewellery, washing hands in public bathrooms being the most common.

Love your style! how would you define your style? what influences your style choices?

i have a “city” style and a “holiday” style and sometimes they are totally opposite. on holidays i love wearing lots of thin cottons, floaty dresses, crochet and more romantic hippy pieces in white and pastel colours. whereas in everyday life i like structured jackets, fitted graphic dresses, shapely trousers, chunky knits and shaggy fur jackets in dark and neutral colours. the reality is i get dressed in five minutes and do make up in the other five so my choices are sometime erratic, often based on the weather- I hate being cold!

What skincare products do you swear by?

Shu Uemura cleansing oil is great and I love Eve Lom cleansing mask. Otherwise anything by Dr Haushka.

What will you be wearing this spring/summer ’13?

Celine trousers, Preen skirts, Roksanda ilincic dresses, Saint Laurent shoes …

Last, but not least – What are your thoughts on social media?

I think it is great how social media allows for democratisation of information, however the problem is the quality and the quantity of this information. There is just so much noise in everyday life and social media also contributes to this information overload. The sad thing is that some people are virtually very sociable with thousands of “friends” and in real life you can just never meet them.
