Kate Spade have just opened their store in Dubai Mall (which is super exciting and sadly had to miss as I’m in London) but I can’t wait to come back and shop the store. Kate Spade is a super fun brand that is always full of life with Deborah Lloyd’s lead on the brand, and Brad Goreski (Former Rachel Zoe Inc) is the stylist for the brand. I spoke to Deborah on design, the Kate Spade girl, her collaboration with Brad and fashion blogs!

Hi Deborah! did you always know you wanted to work in fashion design?

Yes- I knew from a very early age that I wanted to be a designer. I used to make little outfits for my dolls when I was a little girl.

Who is the ‘Kate Spade’ girl?

She is curious and playful and strong.  She is not afraid to stand out in a crowd.

I’m a huge fan of Brad Goreski’s work and so excited that he is the brand stylist. How did that come up?

I had been looking for a stylist to have as a partner for some time and hadn’t quite found the right one. Then I began to notice Brad’s work and thought he had an amazing sense of style. We hired him for a one- off project right after he went out on his own and he and I hit it off immediately.  He is the first stylist I have worked with that when I leave the room, I come back and I like everything he has put together. He has a great eye and a keen sensibility and is a true pleasure to work with.  We have a great time working together!

As a New Yorker, what are your top 3 restaurants in the city?

I love Indochine- it’s an oldy but a goody. I love lunch at Balthazar.  And I love Rucola in my neighbourhood in Brooklyn- it’s delicious.

Do you read fashion blogs?

I do, but probably not as much as I should!

What is next for Kate Spade?

Oh my- we have so much exciting news coming down the pike.  We are going to continue to expand internationally- opening several new stores this year, so I will be travelling quite a bit.  We will be launching some great new products and will be celebrating our 20^th anniversary next year so we’ve got lots to celebrate!
