5 minutes with... Jenna Menard!
Jenna Menard is one of the hottest names on the beauty scene at the moment – she is the Global colour artist for Clinique make up, she headed the make up at New York fashion week (Karen Walker to name a few!) and is also the make up of hollywood starlets and icons including Carey Mulligan, Kate Winslet and Uma Thurman. I recently interviewed Jenna and we spoke about her role at Clinique, her favorite beauty products as well as tips on how to look like a hollywood star!
Hi Jenna! What does your role consist of as the Clinique global colour artist?
Being the first Clinique Global Colour Artist means so much because we are working together to develop this role and all of the various aspects it will entail. Both Clinique and I want to make this a collaborative endeavor where I am able to reach woman and help them in ways that empower them to explore new things with their makeup whether it is a new product, simple trick or more involved technique they will know what to use and how to use it.
You have a superb roster of clients including Uma Thurman, Carey Mulligan and Kate Winslet – their skin always looks flawless, what tip can you give for flawless skin?
The essential tools to a flawless look is proper hydration, choosing the right products for your skin and applying them in a way that will get you closer to your desired skin look.
What is your all time beauty tip?
Don’t always make it a “routine.” Try new things once in awhile and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Confidence also allows you to wear makeup that you might not normally wear. The first time you try a new bold lip colour and smoky eye, wear it with certainty to show off our overall look. Also, trying new things doesn’t always have to be dramatic; subtleties can certainly impact enough change to make makeup exciting. If you try new things you realize how versatile your face can be.
3 beauty products you can’t live without (the more specific, the better!)
I will have to pick more than just three! I always have a concealer, mascara, blush and lip balm in my makeup bag. I also love Clinique’s Moisture Surge Facial Spray. I like applying it before my face cream because it helps the moisturizer seep into the skin. It’s also great to use in the middle of the day for a refreshing mist. You can wear it over or under makeup and apply it anytime, anywhere.
You worked on some great shows such as Karen Walker – what are the beauty trends for this season?
Karen Walker Fashion Show Fall / Winter 2012 makeup focuses on defined eyes and sculpted bone structure. A strong, deep brow helps frame the eyes, while a straight precise line gives this look an edge. The sculpting of the cheek and brow bones creates a structured frame by shading various areas. The elements that add a feminine touch include the soft matte finish of the skin, milky shadow tones on the lids, full lashes and a healthy nude lip.
