Trend Report: SPRING/SUMMER '13

This week, I received an email from a lovely reader asking if I could share what the trends from Spring/Summer ’13 are now that we are dressing for the season. Personally, I don’t really follow trends religiously. I think it’s great stores buy collections and pieces, which they then split into trends which makes it easier for press and consumers. I’ll usually buy into a trend if I like it, but I won’t dress for trends. That aside, thought I would share a few of the key trends for s/s ’13.

-White Out
This is definitely a key trend that was seen at every show during fashion week. I love White for Spring – it makes everything look super crisp and clean. The color also works with a range of different tones – pair with brights, pair with nudes, pair with prints & you’re good to go. Alexander Wang, who is a great user of the color white was my favorite collection featuring whites.

-Monochromatic Geometrics
Prints are here every season, but the variety of prints do change by season. For SS, it was all about geometric prints in monochromes  – black & white stripes, mod prints – you name it.

-Primary Colors
We had neons, we had pastels – this season, it’s all about primary colors. That primary blue (cobalt) or that perfect red.

-Asian Prints
Asia is the region to watch this season. Not only are the designers wanting to place the Chinese on the front row, they are also using their prints on their collections!
Etro, Pucci

-Metallics
One major and key trend for the season alongside white was Metallics. Yes, there was silver, gold, bronze but this season, brands had more fun with featuring colored metallics. Jimmy Choo & Markus Lupfer displayed some great metallic hues in blue, green, and purple.
