Myfashdiary COVERAGE: Yasmin Sewell talks to Lauretta Roberts.
I recently attended a great talk between two great influential fashion individuals, Retail Consultant, Yasmin Sewell & WGSN’s Lauretta Roberts (who I interviewed quite recently!) Yasmin spoke about her early years (she left school early and how she learnt most of her skills by working at a real estate office at the age of fifteen). She later moved to London at the age of nineteen and created opportunities for herself – She worked as a booking editor at Harpers & Queen, at Browns as a window assistant, as well as opening her boutique, Yasmin Cho at the age of 21.
The Question is, how did it all begin?
When Yasmin moved back to Australia, Mrs B of Browns called her up to come work for her… She began working with Denim at Browns Focus and remembers being swamped with look books & that is how Acne rose to fame…
I’ll leave you with some wise words from the expert…
–Retail Mistake: Too much product
–Favorite High Street stores: Zara (great for tailoring), Topshop & Cos
–On shopping online: Only bought Margiela jeans from Net-a-porter.com once.
–Key in Retail: Good service (London is appalling for service!)
–Dislikes: Clutter. sells stuff every 2-3 months (or just gives them to her cleaner)
–Designers she continues to love: Alaia, Acne and Balenciaga
–Designers to look out for: Thomas Tate & Michael Van Der Ham
–Advice for tomorrows talent: Have a Mentor!
