EXCLUSIVE Interview with Designer, MICHAEL KORS!

I have kept this quiet and so I’m excited to finally reveal… I recently interviewed Michael Kors, one of the most talented designers out there… If your an avid reader of myfashdiary, you would also know I’m obsessed with Michael Kors watches! Kors just showcased his SS11 collection in New York for fashion week (check out my favorite looks below!) I picked his brains out on his collection inspirations, Dubai and Blogging! Enjoy!

When did you realize your passion was design and fashion?
I grew up in a family obsessed with fashion and realized I didn’t love math (which you need to be an architect), and wouldn’t be a Broadway star because I couldn’t sing or dance. Fashion design was a natural choice as I always loved to draw and was always passionate about it.

What would you say is the most exciting part of working in the fashion industry?
Seeing my work transposed into real life. When I see a woman wearing a dress or carrying a bag I designed, it’s great.  It’s the best reward a designer can have.

myfashdiary.com is based between London and Dubai. Have you ever been to the Middle East or Dubai? What are your impressions of Middle-Eastern fashion?
They appreciate luxury to the nth degree – they know quality, and appreciate how things are made – everything
that’s integral to my design process.
I’ve been to Dubai twice and I love the energy and vibrant mix of the city.

What are the inspirations behind your current collection?
For my SS2011 collection I was in a sunshine state of mind; everything is natural, relaxed, sexy and easy.

How do you manage pre-fashion week stress?Thinking about the post-fashion week. The day after my collection hits the catwalk, I go away for a few days, generally heading for the beach…that and a ton of iced-tea.

What would you be if you weren’t a fashion designer?
A theater producer.

Favourite fashion city (New York/London/Paris/Milan) or any others?
I am a true New Yorker at heart…but love each one for their own glamour.

Do you read any fashion websites or blogs?
Absolutely. I love the blogs of The Sartorialist and Tommy Ton Photos at the shows are brilliant.   I also love reading gossip magazines.

Any last words for myfashdiary.com readers?
Know who you are and enjoy what you do
