Restaurant Review: The China Club, Dubai

Ideal for… Authentic Chinese food in Dubai
Restaurant name and location: The China Club, Radisson Blu Deira Creek
Cuisine: Chinese
Atmosphere: Quiet, quite empty on a weekday night and feels very authentic. I never go down to this part of town, but when I heard they serve some of the best Chinese food, I had to make my way down there.
What they say: Antique silks in rich colors and intricately embroidered tapestries adorn the walls of the China Club. In this venue, master chefs capture the distinctive flavors of Peking, Cantonese and Szechwan cuisine. The China Club offers an à la carte menu each evening, while lunchtime brings a traditional Yum Cha feast of dim sum, noodles and rice dishes. Traditional Chinese decorum meets contemporary informality to create a delightful ambiance that complements your meal. Settle in at a private dining cubicle enclosed in vibrant curtains for an intimate dinner.

What to order:
-Dumplings (I prefer the steamed over the fried, and simple ones like the shrimp and chicken one)
-Chicken Corn Soup (I’m not a soup person, but this is one of my favorites and they make a tasty one)
-Beef with black bean sauce (Tender and flavorful)
-Chicken Sweet and Sour (The China club’s version are quite round, and slightly sweeter than others but I thoroughly enjoyed it)
-The eggplant vegetable dish was flavorful, slightly spicy but highly recommended.
-We ordered fried rice, and vegetable noodles to accompany our main courses.
-Chilled coconut Cream and sago pearls for dessert
-China club mango pudding with strawberries (If you like mangoes, this is a lovely light dessert)
-Caramelized fried bananas with a side of vanilla ice cream (make sure to keep space for that)

Service: Sweet staff, and the chef also came and made an appearance when they served the dim sums and towards the end, when we got the delicious fried caramelized banana fritters.

What I loved:
-You really do feel like you’re outside of Dubai, the restaurant has a very rich, authentic feel to it – which I really enjoyed.
-If you love dim sums, The China Club have Yum Cha evenings, and serve some of the best dumplings – my favorites are the steamed ones.
-The private dining room – we were a group of 5 friends and booked in one of their dining rooms. It was a little formal (perfect for business dinners), but also quite an authentic experience with friends. The table is large, so the revolving table does help with getting the food around!
-They serve their signature iced tea with the meals throughout the evening.
-The portions are quite large, so you don’t need to order much to get stuffed.

Bill for two: AED400
