Located in the Nihonbashi financial district within the historical and cultural centre of Tokyo
The Rooms:
Spacious, minimal with an Asian flare, and a view of the most beautiful Tokyo skyline (the floors start from the 38th floor so the view is always a sure-thing). Knowing we were from the Middle East, our room came ready with a prayer carpet and Holy Quran, which was a thoughtful and appreciated touch. A head butler, Takashi, was assigned to our room, and he was nothing short of incredible, even bringing us hot tea on a cold night!
The Toilets:
The washroom facilities are gorgeous, with a shower, bathtub and Japanese style toilets with toiletries by Bottega Veneta
The Breakfast: I judge a hotel by its breakfast! I loved the Mandarin’s breakfast buffet which had everything from eggs, fruits to some of the best cinnamon roll pastries (yum!)
The Food (restaurants & bars):
The Mandarin Oriental has a wide range, from Italian and Cantonese to French. There is also a Molecular Bar that is worth a visit for the experience. During my stay, I visited the Oriental lounge for a cup of Chamomile tea, and later had dinner at The Pizza bar, which is literally a pizza bar in their main restaurant. The pizza dough was made out of 80% water, and the bar set-up means we were able to chat with Ito, the super sweet pizza chef who is half-Japanese and half-Filipino. We ended our meal with a hazelnut chocolate pizza topped with frozen wild strawberries. (The pizza wasn’t too sweet, the salt and olive oil made it still taste like a pizza!)
Spa & Gym:
The hotel has an award-winning spa, which I sadly didn’t get the chance to visit. There is also a fitness centre that offers PT, Yoga and Pilates.
