Restaurant Review: Solo, Dubai

Ideal for… a twist on your Italian crave

Restaurant name and location: Solo at the Raffles Hotel, Dubai
Cuisine: Italian Bistronomia & Vinobar
Atmosphere: The space used to be the delicious steakhouse – Fire & Ice. The brick walls are still there, but they’ve changed around the rest of the restaurant. It was quite relaxed and private, even though it was nearly a full house.
What they say: “Solo”, meaning “Only” in Italian, is a Bistronomia & Vinobar concept offering regional Italian homemade dishes that encourages conviviality and socializing amongst its clientele. Owner Chef Corrado Pani, truly passionate about “Only” good food and genuine hospitality supported by a team of skilled and experienced professionals, is launching this new Bistronomia concept to the Dubai food & beverage scene by focusing on serving gastronomic food and terroir wines in a relaxing atmosphere.

What to order:
-Cheese fondue pizza (perfection, doughy filled with aged parmesan fondue, mozzarella, asparagus and truffle)
-Wild mushroom and truffle risotto (This comes with parmesan fondue and is one of the best risottos I’ve ever had!)
-Roasted beef fillet with mashed potato (creamy, tasty and tender)
-Sea Bass (melts in your mouth, judged by my friends!)
-Classic Tiramisu (you can’t visit an Italian restaurant and not order their tiramisu)

Service: Ace service

What I loved:
-I don’t eat duck or fish, so I struggled to find some dishes but luckily, the chef can tweak them!
-The quality of the food and ingredients in everything we ate were on point.
-A new Italian concept, so definitely a must try for Italian lovers.
-chef Corrado Pani (who is also the owner)  was charming, hilarious and a genius, his dishes were even better than they looked.
-Solo is a wine bar as well, so make sure to ask for perfect pairings.
What I didn’t love as much:
-It’s not very simple to order from the menu. I suggest you come in knowing what you want or get the chef, who was incredibly sweet to help you with the orders!

Bill for two: AED350
