Restaurant Review: Rhodes W1, Dubai

Ideal for… a lovely British dinner in the city – the Gary Rhodes way.

Restaurant name and location: Rhodes W1, Grosvenor House Hotel

Cuisine: Classic British food

Atmosphere: For a weekday dinner, it was quite relaxed with what looked like British hotel guests trying out the restaurant. I went around a month after it opened.

What they say:

Rhodes W1, a quintessentially British restaurant, bar and terrace.

A new take on wholesome British cuisine. A casual yet chic dining experience based around great British classics. The atmosphere is cheerful and inviting yet maintaining an ambiance of sophistication.

What to order:

-If you’d like a refreshing mocktail, go for the Simply Etiquette, which includes Elderflower.

-Montgomery’s Potato Cake which includes cheddar, fried onions and potatoes (delicious, a must order)

-Tomato cake and goats cheese (refreshing starter)

-Welsh caerphilly cheese and spring onion tart (green vegetables, wild mushrooms and walnut salad, red wine dressing)

-Steamed Jam Roly-Poly (Jammy taste, super British!)

-Egg custard tart with Nutmeg icecream (This just tasted like Christmas.)

Service: For a new restaurant, I was really happy with the service – and the waiters just looked amazing in their pale yellow uniforms and lemon shirts.

What I loved:

-The summery and fresh feel of the restaurant – which made the whole English experience ultra lovely. All the tables had a sunflower too – you couldn’t come in and not feel happy.

-It’s not every night you’d be dining at a Gary Rhodes restaurant.

What I didn’t love as much:

-That they didn’t offer lunch yet – this would make the perfect day restaurant.

Bill for two: AED500
