Pressed Juices: Organic Press

I love Pressed juices and I must say it’s been a good year in Dubai with all those pressed juice options popping up. My latest obsession? Organic Press. 100% raw, organic cold pressed juices loaded with enzymes, vitamins and minerals. I’m not a fan of juice cleanses so I had them as supplementary juices. Fab typography and packaging – my favourites included Citrus 1 (Lemon, agave nectar and Cayenne), Citrus 2 (Apple, Lemon, Ginger and Cayenne), and Fruit 1 (Pineapple, apple, and mint.)

Yoga: Session with Yoga Olympics champion, Priyanka Chowdhury

I recently booked in for a one on one session with Yoga Olympics Champion, Priyanka Chowdhury at The Oberoi Hotel in Business bay. As soon as I arrived on a Friday morning, Priyanka greeted me – she usually does her classes outdoors but the night before, it poured. We took the sessions indoors in a large treatment room at the Spa. We ended up going for a 45 minute Hatha Yoga session -If you’re someone that isn’t a regular yogi, Hatha is great for stretching without getting too exhausted as concentrating on the moves are a lot more important. Priyanka was great, super sweet and made sure to correct me with the moves. A great option for hotel guests or Yoga fans here in Dubai – who doesn’t love getting trained by the best?

Chinese Takeout: ChopSuey

Chinese food is one of my favourites and to be honest, I have my go to’s for casual Chinese (The Noodle House) but I never know where the best place to order for Chinese take out. This month, I found it. ChopSuey is the name. A fairly new Chinese restaurant that delivers recently opened in Dubai – Beach Park Plaza Mall to be exact. I recently ordered a feast for a late night take out and was super impressed. Decent prices, great typography and packaging and the best part? Delicious food. My favourites included the Sweet and Sour chicken, spring rolls and dumplings. It’s also less greasy than your typical Chinese take away and good to know that they use the best (freshest ingredients) and low sodium products. The Chinese boxes reminded me of the states in their traditional takeaway boxes. Highly recommended!

Strength Workout: PowerFit at Talise Fitness

Strength workouts are vital for anyone’s workout regime. I recently took a PowerFit class with Sergey at Talise Fitness in Mina Salam Hotel (one of the best gyms in town, ultimate quality and luxury). The 60 minute class takes place in their Aerobic classroom and consists of circuit stations that change every class (I like that, never gets you bored!) and include Vipr lifts, squats on a boss ball, push ups on a step, lunges, ab exercises and movements with strength sacks. Great music, constant motivation and you really get an amazing workout (woke up the next day with worked, and sore muscles.) If you’re looking for a fab strength workout, check out the Powerfit class at Talise Fitness.

Burgers: Burger Joint at City Walk

There has been a burger craze in Dubai at the moment and I’m loving it. The latest to hit the city? Burger Joint from NYC. They have been voted by New York magazine as the “Best Classic burger” and I agree – it’s a no fuss classic good burger. I recently went out for a sister date as I was craving a really good burger so we headed to try Burger Joint at City Walk in Jumeirah. The space is super impressive and reminds me of something I’d see in New York – high ceilings, signs on the walls, brick walls and they even give you a marker to ‘mark your visit’. Straight to the point – the burgers are also very simple. You only really have a choice about what you don’t want in it and how you want your meat cooked.  A no-fuss menu on cardboard with minimal choices of hamburger, cheeseburger, double hamburger and grilled chicken, shakes with one dessert option – Brownie. There’s your next Burger stop sorted…

Event: Cavalia

I recently went to see Cavalia, the beautiful horse show you’ve been hearing about during their tour in Dubai – they had sell out shows in Abu Dhabi back in February. A show of equestrian art created by Cirque du Soleil co-founder, Normand Latourelle. An unreal experience that took place by the Trade centre, the show is something out of this world and worth seeing it in a different city or if it ever comes back. Imagine an exquisite theatrical performance, cirque du soleil with horses made out of a team 50 horses and 44 artists. After the 2 hour show, VIP attendees were able to go backstage to the stables to see the beautiful horses and learn about their breeds & origins. With such a great response, Cavalia added extra shows so I had the chance to get tickets and check out one of the last shows. No wonder Sheikh Mohammed made sure to catch the show too…

Bright Hair Color: L’Oreal Hair Chalk at Pastels Salon

I’m a little obsessed with bright hair at the moment – especially pink and purple shades. L’Oreal just launched a Hair chalk product that is made for home and salon use. They come in 8 different colours – pinks, purples, greens and blues…  I recently visited Pastels Salon, Al Wasl road to try it out for myself. I went with the beautiful purple shade. After a wash and a blow dry, the liquid was applied to my hair, I went with lower ombre rather than highlights before being combed through and blow dried again till it dried. Long story short… I liked the fact that you get a temporary hair color – depending on the quality of the hair and the times you wash it but it can stay on from a week all the way to a month but I wasn’t completely won over on the time it took (I spent a good few hours at the salon) and the texture those strands feel till the colour comes out (the hair feels very coarse, as if you’ve sprayed a ton of hairspray).

Music: Blended Festival

Dubai has been expanding on a lot of things and one of them has got to be Music… Done events organised a 2 day festival called BLENDED at Dubai Media City that is different to your typical Rnb, rock or rap concerts – this one was all about Blues, Jazz and Soul with a line up of Aloe Blacc, Elvis Costelloe and Joss Stone to name a day. A lovely chilled atmosphere, with bars and food options from Tom & Serg, Pizza Express and Burger Fuel. Definitely one to attend next year.
