Highlights of my month: March 2013

March 23
Comments

-App: Food Spotting
If you’re a food lover like myself, this is an app worth downloading. The app shows you restaurants around your area, the points they received from consumers as well as pictures people took of the food there. Perfect solution for my dinner dilemmas.

-Collaboration: Sarah’s bag for Clinique
I really like how Clinique (a global beauty brand) teams up with regional brands for collaborations – not only do I actually really like Clinique products, I love how they’re supporting our talent too. This season, they have teamed up with Sarah’s bag (a brand of bags I love too…) for an exciting collaboration of two limited edition pouches with a Fatima’s hand. All you have to do is spend 750 dhs on Clinique products between March 20th and April 7th. PS you ALSO get a Clinique pouch with samples of their best sellers. love it.

-Book: Sweet Tooth by Lily Vanilli
I recently met Lily whilst she was in Dubai to consult for a bakery in the UAE. If you’re not familiar with Lily, she is a super cool baker, owns her own bakery in London, has published two books, and has a strong celebrity fan base – she made Daisy Lowe’s birthday cake and brought me a cake when we met (my kind of girl.) Lily kindly sent over a copy of her new book, Sweet tooth and I fell in love. If you have a sweet tooth like me, do check it out. Need to try making those Chelsea buns one day…

-Website: ahotellife.com
I recently met hotelier and founder of the brand new & the hottest hotel website (& definitely one of the best out there), Ben Pundole. Not only is this guy one of the most inspiring people I’ve met, ahotellife.com is the site I want to check when searching for a cool hotel to stay at – everything is straight to the point, and interesting, with a little bit of humor. I’m also super excited to be contributing… look out for my first hotel review.

-Regional talent: Symphony’s Tasyourah
I love when boutiques support regional talent. This month, I was honored to be a partner in Symphony’s brand new annual gathering called Symphony’s Tasyourah where they will be celebrating regional talent with some fun activities. This one celebrated the likes of Madiyah Al Sharqi, Mariam Omaira, and Malaak to name a few over arabic pastry and desserts, arabic nail art and an arabic themed photo booth. Go Symphony!

-Tea Time: Fashion tea at the Raffles Hotel, Dubai.
Planning a baby shower or just want to catch up with friends over tea time? I recently tried The Raffles Hotel’s Fashion tea time, which they change every season depending on the fashion season we’re in. Not only is the hotel beautiful, and the fashion tea concept is awesome… they had some great snacks that were just delicious – my favorites include the Cucumber and tomato panini sponge, burratta on beetrootbread, Oreo cookie blusher and best of all – Sticky bun with pecan nuts!  Check out my photos from the tea time above.

-Take-away food: Moti Roti
I’ve never had Pakistani food before, even though one of my best friends is actually from Pakistan. I have been eager to try Moti Roti for some time now – which is healthy Pakistani street food, with the coolest art work. I had a chicken brown bread Roti, chicken salad and a Mango Lasi. My favorite had to be the Chicken Roti, I love how it was mild too – perfect office food! Check out their menu here

-Fashion Concept: LuxCartel
I’ve been hearing about LuxCartel for some time now. The NYC based company owned by two women – Jenna Sloan & Natalia Rovner. I had the chance to visit their presentation in Dubai, hosted by the gorgeous, Alia Sadek. They support up and coming designers by helping them with sales and creative. Lucky for my Saudi readers, they will be in Saudi – hosted by Faten Abbar Zahid from March 25th to 28th.

-Art: Art Dubai
I have been so bummed to have missed all the Art Dubai events, and thought I’d be missing it again this season due to a work trip to India. Everything happens for a reason – my visa was late, so I couldn’t make my masterclass in India and got to finally attend Art Dubai at Madinat Jumeirah. If you’re not familiar with Art Dubai, it’s an international art fair that happens in this glorious city twice a year. Not only is it a great time to enjoy the art, it’s also a great place to catch up with my favorite people in Dubai and internationally (A perfect time to fly down to Dubai – this season, Charlotte Ronson and Rick Owens were a few of the people in town.)
