On My Plate: Mother Mash
by MFD food editor, Tamara Samman

Mother Mash – A casual and cosy British restaurant which specializes in offering fresh mashed potato with your choice of sausage/pie and gravy.  Three words to describe this place: great comfort food.  Itwas perfect on this very day as London was having one of its typical cold and rainy days (shocker). Mother Mash is simple all and all with its straightforward menu of making your order with three easy steps, as well as its basic and congenial interior.

I decided to go with the Classic Mash and the special Steak & Ale Pie with Onion Gravy.  The mash was fluffy and fresh as it ever could be, yet perfectly filling.  This pie was a perfect choice for me, which was beyond satisfying with its rich flavors.  Tala, known as the crazy cheese lover, decided to go with the Cheesy Mash and the Vegetarian Pie (goats cheese and pumpkin) with Onion Gravy.  According to Tala, the mature cheddar in the cheesy mash had mouthwatering cheese strings with every bite. The onion gravy complemented both our dishes as it added a sweet twist to our mash and pie.  The side ofCaramelized Onions was the ideal side to our dishes as we combined it with our onion gravy.

Our tummies were more than pleased at this point so we were confident that the dessert would be just as delicious.  It was not easy choosing from a tempting list of pies, crumbles AND puddings; but we decided to go with the Sticky Toffee Pudding with Custard.  We were usually used to having our sticky toffee pudding with ice cream, but the custard worked to its advantage as it gave the pudding a mighty moist edge.  I can safely say that this was the best sticky toffee pudding I have ever had! Each bite was heavenly…what’s better than having a warm, moist and indulging dessert pudding on a cold and rainy day?

How have we not discovered Mother Mash sooner?
